Mr. Ballenger served in the Army for three years as a Medevac Medic. Following his honorable discharge in 1982, he pursued a degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Maryland and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in 1987. During his engineering studies, Mr. Ballenger also obtained his private pilot license. In 1987 he began his law studies at the University of Maryland School of Law in Baltimore. He graduated in 1991 with a Juris Doctorate degree.
Mr. Ballenger attended law school at night and worked full-time during the day as a law clerk to one of the leading medical malpractice attorneys in the country. During his clerkship, Mr. Ballenger worked on all aspects of a medical malpractice cases from initial intake to assisting at numerous trials. He also wrote numerous appellate briefs that resulted in several published appellate opinions.
After being admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1991, Mr. Ballenger started his own law practice and concentrated in medical malpractice and serious personal injury. In his first jury trial as a lawyer, Mr. Ballenger obtained a 1.5 Million Dollar verdict against an orthopedic surgeon.
Since that time Mr. Ballenger has obtained numerous multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements on behalf of victims of medical malpractice and other types of negligence.
Mr. Ballenger has agreed to accept numerous cases that had been rejected by other attorneys – often resulting in significant settlements and verdicts. Recently, he agreed to accept a case that had been rejected by seven other attorneys and obtained a $500,000 settlement on behalf of a bicyclist who was hit by a car and suffered a fractured shoulder requiring a partial shoulder replacement.
Mr. Ballenger has also obtained several published appellate opinions in both Federal and State appeals courts that were cases of first impression.
Mr. Ballenger was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1991 and is licensed to practice law in both Maryland state courts and Maryland Federal courts and the Fourth Circuit.
As a lifelong motorcyclist, including a solo cross country trip, Mr. Ballenger is also very knowledgeable in negligence involving motorcycle accidents.
